Introduction to Digital Photography:

 

SYLLABUS

 

LEVEL: Beginner

 

 

A: DESCRIPTION

This one hour course will give you an understanding of digital camera technology. You will get hands on experience for manipulating the automated features built into your digital camera. 

 

B: COURSE TOPICS:

     1.   A brief overview of the origin and evolution of digital cameras.

           

            2.   The nature of light and photography:

        A:  Capturing light (lenses and aperture)

        B:   Measurement of light (shutter speed and ISO)

           

            3.   Simplified basic digital camera technology:

        A:  Types of digital cameras  (e.g. CCD vs. CMOS)

        B:  Advantageous accessories (e.g. memory, tripod, flash, batteries…)

 

             4.  Simplified digital image architecture:

        A.  Image aspect ratios (initially defined by the camera’s image sensor)

        B:  Resolution vs. image size (maximizing camera potential)

        C:  Image definition (camera settings for best image quality)

             

C: COURSE OBJECTIVE:

       To give students the knowledge and skill needed to capture high quality digital images. 

 

D: PREREQUISITE:

        No prerequisite.  Bringing a digital camera to class is suggested.
